Candler Park

Candler Park is an eclectic neighborhood in Dekalb County featuring 1920s craftsman-style bungalow homes, its own business district, and the park itself.  What is now Candler Park was actually the city of Edgewood, established in 1890.  Edgewood existed on its own until 1908 when citizens petitioned to become part of Atlanta.  Major development ensued as the citizens subdivided their estates.  There was a period of several years when the area fell into decay, but re-development began in the late 1960s which continues through today.

Candler Park, named after one of the early leaders of Coca-Cola who lived in the area, retains much of the characteristics which made it popular in the first place, including small businesses catering to the neighborhood and easy access to downtown.  Today the park and surrounding area includes a 9-hole golf course, swimming pool, basketball and tennis courts, and a playground, as well as easy access to MARTA, the bus and rail system.
