Henry County is located just south of metro Atlanta, and Stockbridge enjoys the county’s largest population.  When the un-named community applied for a post office sometime before the Civil War, a name was required.  Legend said that citizens named their post office and village for a Professor Levi Stockbridge, a Yankee school teacher.  If the professor was not the first school teacher in the area, he was the most outstanding of the time.  However, 146 years later, it appeared that a John Stockbridge from South Carolina was the rightful namesake of the town.

Since its founding, the town has grown to more than 10,000, offering the comfort and feel of the small town but with the amenities of the big city close by.  Stockbridge residents enjoy a number of national retailer products and services, along with a variety of local, regional, and national restaurants.    With I-75 close by, residents easily travel by car to Atlanta or throughout the nation or can quickly fly from nearby Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
