From downtown, Roswell is located approximately 20 miles north (on the northern banks of the Chattahoochee River) just on the outskirts of Atlanta in north Fulton County.  Gold was discovered in the northern part of Georgia in 1828 which created a flux of settlers to relocate to the area including Roswell King of Darien, Georgia.  Traveling via horseback, Mr. King proceeded along the Chattahoochee River and soon discovered vast natural resources that he believed would be perfect for a mill.  The Roswell Manufacturing Company became extremely successful and continued to grow.  Mr. King soon began to present investment opportunities to his colleagues and shortly thereafter a community was founded.

Roswell has developed into a thriving city of approximately 84,000.  Roswell residents boast that with this growth they have managed to hold onto the small-town atmosphere where a strong sense of family and community still dominates.  There are a slew of activities to do in Roswell, almost too many to list, actually.  However, the Chattahoochee River and Trail System has 16 miles of trails winding throughout the city and it is quite popular with runners and bicyclists.

Roswell Roots is a February festival of Black History, and May brings the Roswell Criterium Bicycle Race and the Colors Festival of Arts.  June through September host the Roswell Magnolia Storytelling Festival, the Roswell Arts Festival, the Taste of Roswell, and the Roswell Heritage Music Festival.  These are but a few of the fun things to explore and do in Historic Roswell.
